Mud Room Conversion

When the weather is all over the temperature range as is always likely this time of year I try to keep an inside project going for those cold days. This winter it was the office that I needed to tackle! I don’t know if you have a room in your house that is kind of a “catch all” but for us it was the office. It is the first room off the garage and the one that all the family comes through, you know the front door is reserved for guests. We were basically using it for storage and coats and shoes anyway so we decided to make it into an official mud room. Here is what it looked like.

I have always wanted some barn doors in the house so I decided to make one side of it all storage. First I pulled the long row of cubbies off the wall.

Then cut the counter out that was under the window and removed the bookshelf.

Next I built shelves the full length above and below the counter for lots of storage.

We decided on car siding for the doors so they were relatively easy to build.

We wanted a rustic feel so I put clavos (decorative nails) across the center and installed the roller hardware.

Next I got a piece of angle iron and secured it for a rail above the shelves and hung the doors up. I have to say it turned out really well.

I have a plan for a coat rack for the back wall and will share it once I get it finished.

Work hard.
Have fun.
Make a difference!
